What is Lifeboat Me! and why do I need it?

Lifeboat Me! is an automatic failover system designed to maximize website uptime without requiring you to surrender control of your DNS.

How does it work?

Lifeboat Me! constantly monitors the status of your website. Should your site go down, traffic is immediately redirected to a continuously updated clone of your site. The switchover is so fast—about 5 seconds—your visitors (and SEO) won't notice. When your primary website comes back up, normal traffic flow is restored.

How is Lifeboat Me! different?

Unlike our competitors, you retain complete control over your DNS and can stay with your preferred hosting provider—Lifeboat Me! does not force you to migrate hosting or hand over DNS authority. You are in total control.

C2PED6 RMS Titanic of the White Star Line sinking around 2.20 AM, Monday morning, April 15, 1912.Survival at sea (or online) sometimes depends on having a good lifeboat.

I was told there would be no math...

So, we'll make this fast.

Website hosts often advertise 99+% uptime, which sounds great—but that actually means about 1% downtime.

365 days × 1% = 3 days, 15 hours and 39 minutes of downtime per year. That’s a lot of downtime.

Lifeboat Me! drops that to under 53 minutes per year—or 1% of 1%. And the probability that your website and its clone are both down at the same time? 10,000 to 1. About the same odds as being abducted by a UFO.*

* Okay, we have no idea what the odds of being abducted by aliens are, but it's pretty darned rare.

Why the Titanic?

The disaster was avoidable.

  • The Titanic received multiple iceberg warnings but continued steaming full speed ahead—reckless given the conditions.
  • A glassy sea and moonless night made spotting ice difficult especially given the lookouts lacked binoculars (locked up and the key left behind in England!)
  • The engines were reversed degrading the ship's ability to turn—potentially causing additional critical damage.

Engineering flaws and the icy North Atlantic did the rest.

How disaster became tragedy.

The Titanic carried just 20 lifeboats with room for barely half of the 2200+ souls on board. The poorly-trained crew’s botched evacuation led to only 18 lifeboats being launched—many half full.

Only 706 of the passengers and crew were saved.

The moral of the story.

Preparation is crucial, but reacting effectively when disaster strikes can make the difference.

Lifeboat Me! gives you the best of both worlds. We help you miss your iceberg—but no matter what—we make sure you have all the "lifeboats" you need.
